Pennsylvania Waterfowl Heritage Society Raffle

From the desk of Pennsylvania's own, David Rearick, comes the following information about a fantastic undertaking and an incredible opportunity for waterfowlers across the country.

Currently, the Pennsylvania Waterfowl Heritage Society (PAWHS) is working on a joint project with the state game commission, the Northwest Pennsylvania Duck Hunter's Association, the Susquehanna River Waterfowler's Association, and Scott Petrie of the famed Long Point Waterfowl and Wetland Research Facility, focusing on the use of radio telemetry studies to monitor and evaluate lesser and greater scaup populations.

Petrie's hope is to equip an additional 10 greater scaup with satellite transmitters; however, his efforts have come up short, financially. Due to Pennsylvania's significance as a major flyway and staging area for both lesser and great scaup, the agencies listed above have joined forces, along with a possible grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Great Lakes Fish/Wildlife Restoration Action, to continue funding Petrie's work.

At this time, capture and banding of scaup at Presque Isle State Park on Lake Erie is underway, with state wildlife biologist, Kevin Jacobs, taking the lead role. Installation of the transmitters is scheduled for Spring, 2010; however, it's never to soon to begin collecting monies for this venture. And this is where the PAWHS has stepped up by offering a one-of-a-kind raffle! Details are as follows -

Tickets are $20 each, three for $50, or seven for $100. Each ticket includes four (4) numbers or chances; only 250 tickets will be sold. Winning tickets will be determined by the daily Pennsylvania lottery three-digit evening drawing. Each and every prize listed will be awarded, regardless of the number of tickets sold.
