Last Day Bang

As the final day of the 08-09 goose season in Oklahoma arrived little did we know what we would wake up to the next morning. Early that morning, after getting the decoys set, lights appeared on the edge of the field we were hunting. As we headed to park the truck and trailer I noticed a few of the guys. They were late, I'm talking really late arriving around shooting time. I told them to jump in with us and the good times began. At times we were laughing so hard we were crying. It was an amazing experience to have ten hunters putting the smack down on the geese.

At one time that morning we had twelve hunters in the field and let me say, it sounded like a war that morning. With the first group working the decoys, we called the shot and the group dropped eighteen geese in the decoys. I still remember the farmer coming outside and watching us from the porch. It was so great and a sight to see the farmer fist pumping the air and needless to say he was fired up to get the geese off of his wheat.

By 10:00, we had twenty-eight geese down, and we decided to try and set up on some snows later in the day. We ended up with a few more but this hunt will always be one of my favorite hunts.

That day brought several opportunities to our group. Not only the hunt, but also lasting friendships that will last a lifetime. This hunt was special not only because of the fun the group had, but introducing waterfowling to my girlfriend for the first time. Looking back on the season its almost depressing seeing it pass by, but the great memories that I have with countless close friends is priceless. I am very thankful that I can be in the beautiful Oklahoma outdoors, and build endless relationships with close friends.
