He got back up?

Winding down our spring turkey season in Canada was a great idea! As part of the Grand Finale, we made plans to hunt with Steve Todtz of Grey Bruce Outfitters in Walkerton, Ontario. Believe it or not, the turkey hunting in Ontario is amazing! Steve had a phenomenal season, with over 70 kills and 40 misses; what was better is that the number of birds still running around was incredible.

We arrived in Walkerton on Friday, 29 May - and the rest, as folks say, is history. Within 90 minutes of walking into the field our first morning, we had two birds down and on film. With Josh, Todtz, and me all carrying shotguns, those birds didn't stand a chance.

The first was unique, though he started in a very traditional manner. He hit the ground and began coming our way off the roost; suddenly, there he was some 50 yards away. I was pointed away, but Josh was right on his - BAM! The shocking part was the sight of the longbeard running away, unscathed. Josh had missed! Without warning, though, a second shot rang out - Todtz, a veteran waterfowler, was right there on back-up, and it was gobbler down. It's always nice to have a second shooter in the field - eh, Josh?
