SPECKtacular Goose Hunt by Pro-Staffer Jeremy McIntyre I received a phone call from my hunting partner and fellow Avery Pro-Staff member Curt Wilson on a late January afternoon. He proceeded to tell me how he couldn't believe the number of Spec's and Snows he saw in a field he was scouting. After finding out the location, I told him I had the privilege of hunting that same field the previous year. I made a telephone call to a customer and friend of mine and the date was set. Finally, a true test for the Zink Power-Spec.

An idea came about a few months ago about testing the effectiveness of wood Zink calls and GHG® decoys to hunt heavily pressured, late season, public water honkers. To be successful with late season geese, sometimes you have to pull out all of the stops. Our plan was to hunt a soy bean field during the last week of the season. The problem was going to be that we had hunted that field one to two times a week for the last 5 weeks using spreads of four to five dozen FFD Lessers. Today's plan called for combining two decoy rigs into one large spread of twenty five dozen full bodies and over-sized shells.

With the second and final split of the Maryland A.P. goose season quickly approaching, we had to formulate a plan for opening day. We had a few strikes going against us for the opening day: the forecasted weather was 60 degrees and no wind, I only had access to corn fields that the geese had barely touched, and the geese had been exposed to heavy hunting pressure.
