Jay Longhauser
Jay Longhauser grew up in Wichita, Kansas and was introduced to hunting upland birds and turkeys with his dad at the age of four. A few years later they began to hunt small pasture ponds and rivers for ducks and geese. Watching big flocks of canadas coming into the decoys and hearing all the sounds they made was more than enough to make him want to hunt and watch geese as often as he could.
Jay attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and received a Bachelors Degree in Advertising and was a member of the Drake men's soccer team. While in Iowa he was able to hunt geese in cornfields as well as large lakes from boats with permanent blinds. He can remember many nights spent sleeping on the floor of a duck boat during a big north wind in Iowa.
After college Jay moved back to Kansas and currently works in property management in the Kansas City Metro area. He is fortunate to have hunted geese from the Hudson Bay and Central Saskatchewan to Texas. While those areas can provide incredible hunting he has found his home state can be hard to beat. Living in Kansas offers many opportunities to pursue waterfowling. He enjoys hunting large crop fields, pastures, rivers, marshes, and lakes for ducks and geese. His favorite spot to hunt is late in the season on the rivers. When everything else freezes the birds can be very concentrated. While the weather and conditions can be challenging, if you can get to those areas the birds are in the rewards can be huge. He thinks the tough hunts and tough birds are the most rewarding. When you have to adjust and work to get birds inside of twenty feet and you get it right it's always worth the effort, and if you don't get it right you learn something.
In the spring you can find Jay hunting turkeys. He enjoys the challenge and the unique interaction that comes every time you can get a longbeard fired up. He loves seeing and hearing birds react to a call. It's another way to improve your skills as a hunter and enjoy the outdoors. He has found that it's a great way to introduce newcomers to hunting with mild weather and lots of exciting new things to see and hear.
Jay brings over twenty years of hunting experience to Zink Calls, a love for the outdoors, and the desire to share his experiences with other sportsmen with the hope that it makes their time in the field enjoyable.
