My name is Kerry Elliott. I live in Paris, Kentucky, where I have lived all of my life. I am a true blue University of Kentucky fan (GO CATS!!) but graduated from Morehead State University with a degree to teach business education (GO EAGLES!!) I am a technology resource teacher for several elementary schools in my school district. (I help teachers use technology in their classroom lessons).
My love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors came at an early age when I would "bird dog" for my dad on quail and rabbit hunts. I have vivid memories of getting caught in the tangles of briars not being able to get out while bird dogging. I don't even think I was old enough to carry a gun at that time. My first memory of carrying and shooting a gun was at a dove hunt where the gun was too long for me to shoulder, so I would put the stock under my arm as I shot. I became a pretty good shot that way. My dad continued to take me afield hunting and took me on my first deer hunt when I was 15. I was hooked... and still am hooked... especially hunting deer with my bow. I didn't get into turkey calling and turkey hunting till I was in college. I could tell from the moment I picked up a turkey call and tried blowing it... I was hooked. I love the challenge that goes into turkey hunting. The calling. The setup. The thinking on your feet as the hunt develops. Trying to dupe that longbeard to come in to your calling and setup. And, trust me, I've been duped many many many more times that I've duped the turkey... but yet I still keep coming back for more.
I have been competitive turkey calling for about 5 years. I am the 2010 and 2011 Indiana State Gobbling Champion as well as the 2010 and 2011 Ohio State Gobbling Champion. I was 3rd runner-up in the gobbling division at the 2010 Grand Nationals. I finished 2nd runner-up in the 2011 Team Challenge at the Grand Nationals along with fellow Zink Pro Staffer, Jesse Martin.
When I am not in the woods hunting turkey or deer, I love to be on the water bass fishing. I am a drummer in a local band where I live, so that keeps me busy several weekends through the year. I recently purchased a new home, so that is going to be keeping me busy for the next... oh... .20 years or so. I am also active in my church where I currently am the worship leader.
I joined the Zink crew in 2010 and have loved every minute of it. I especially love the new Thunder Ridge series of calls (aluminum, crystal, and slate) and recommend them to anyone looking for something with some pop that is quite affordable.
