Zink Calls Field Staff
Bret Ekberg
My name is Bret Ekberg. I am 21 years old and was born and raised in Funk, Nebraska. I recently took an estimating job with a lumber company which moved me three hours to Fremont, NE. As a boy I hunted the Platte River with my father and grandfather chasing ducks and geese. Hunting was a way of life. At the age of 10 I shot my first duck and from there the obsession started.
I enjoy hunting all species of game including doves, pheasants, and quail, as well as deer and turkeys. Last year I took a first time turkey hunter to the woods. We filmed the hunt and sent it into Cabela's Outdoor Memories in the Field, and had it played on national television. I like taking people who have never been hunting before because I like to see that addiction begin in others as well.
I have hunted ducks and geese all over the great state of Nebraska. But by far my favorite is hunting them on the sandy banks of the Platte. I like the challenge of enticing wary birds to come into the decoys. Waterfowling is my obsession and birds in your face is what trips my trigger.
Though I have no contest calling experience, I am looking to begin. I have a great interest in the waterfowling community and look to become active in it. I have belonged to Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever for several years. As a member of the Zink Pro Staff I would do my part in the promotion of Zink Calls. I also feel it would be a great way to expand my knowledge about ducks and geese, and meet others that are addicted to waterfowling as well.
